So, you're on ScienceSim. You don't want to be Ruth. You want to find avatars, skins, and clothing. You want gadgets. You want toys. Maybe you want textures. Where do you go, what do you do?
Note that because slurl's are Second Life-specific, they aren't included here as links. When you see a location, it will follow the pattern "Region Name (x,y,z)". Use the Map and the search tool on the Map dialog to find the region, and then put in the three coordinates in the three text gadgets for coordinates lower down on the right panel of the window. Select "teleport" when you've got everything in properly.
Editing your Appearance
If you don't find another avatar to wear, but just want to edit your own avatar, you can do that, just as in Second Life. There is one complication: the default shape and skin you're wearing may not be editable. To correct this, make yourself a new shape, skin, hair, and eyes, and wear all four of those. See the image for what the menus look like when you're making these things; to get these menus, right-click on the folder where you want them to appear. To wear them, find them in your inventory, right click on them, and select "wear". You will then have full control when you right click on your avatar and select "edit appearance" from the pie menu.
Likewise, if you want to make yourself a new shirt, pants, etc., using just solid colors, you will probably need to make a new one of each of those.
Places to get Avatars and Clothing on ScienceSim
Just like in Second Life, there are more clothes for women than there are for men....
- ScienceSim Basic Avatars : Newton (33, 56, 57). A small number of standard default avatars for ScienceSim, plus some tutorial boards about changing your appearance.
- Kepler Freebies : Kepler (138, 204, 28). Some boxes of avatar clothing and avatars, as well as some furniture and such.
- Fashion Research Institute Avatar Shopping Region : Shengri La Spirit 22 (117, 137, 25). Avatars and clothing created by Shenlei Winkler. Look around the little gazebo where you land; there are lots of black FRI signs that will take you to spots to find different bits of avatar gear.
Places to get Other Stuff
- Office setups and textures : Newton (173, 40, 25). A small "mall" type area. If you look around, you can find some collections of "meeting furniture". Just to the South of this location are a collection of textures made tileable and uploaded to ScienceSim by Shenlei.
- Buildings and Building Pieces -- OpenVCE Content : Scratch 11 (128, 106, 25). (OpenVCE stands for "Open Virtual Collaboration Environment".) There are some boxes here with buildings, textures, and the like that you can use in your own building.
Other Thigns to See
- Teleport Central : Newton (71, 219, 48). Has numerous signs that will give you teleport destinations to various places on ScienceSim.
